HELP!!! Front Brakes
03/03/09 at 09:15:07

I have been having an on going problem with my right front brake caliper. I have a 2006 TRX450R. LOONNGG story short, it seems that when the right front is mounted (like normal) to the knuckle/spindle, it never squares with the rotor, hence never tightens all the way when I squeeze lever. I have already bought a brand new OEM knuckle AND rotor, it is still happening. When I dismount the caliper and hold it over the rotor, it tightens up perfect. I already checked the piston seals and dust seals. No leaks anywhere. Brake pads have plenty of life left. Could the pads be worn/bent wrong? The rubber bushings the rods slide into bad? PLEASE HELP!!!!

Have you tried bleeding them out? Might have air in the line, top off the fuild in the rezzy and bleed them out a few times and see if that makes a difference.

If you pump them does the wheel lock on the second or third pump.  It sounds like the mount that attaches your caliper to the spindle is bent.  I have had it happen a couple times.  The first time I chased the problem the same as your are.

DEL152 - Are you saying the mounting points on the caliper itself could be bent?

Hizlin - see if you can square the caliper up by using spacers...

DEL152- It was a headache wasn't it?! Thanks a ton for your info, and 450racers.com thanks as well. It makes sense now. I had tried the spacers, although I was putting them behind the pads. That did not work, but I bet your way will. The only thing I do not know about is how much room I actually have to work with in between the rotor and the caliper itself. Only one way to find out! I will let you guys know Monday. I REALLY appreciate everyone's help!

Yes.  The mounting plate on the caliper.  It's removable and you can buy just the part that's needed.  Last year I had a rock stuck in my wheel and had the pump my brakes the rest of the moto 2 to 3 times to get brakes.  In between motos I checked the rotor but it was okay and switched the mounting plate and it fixed it.  When the plate is bent it creates the same problem as if you had a bent rotor.

It worked boys! I had to put only one washer in between the caliper mount plate and the knuckle/spindle (the bottom mount). I also had to grind down the opposite side of the caliper mount plate so it did not rub up against the rotor. Only about 15 min of work. I might still purchase just the new mount like you have suggested. Thanks again guys, I appreciate it. Only one bad thing came out of this whole thing - I spent $92 on a new rotor and it looks like I did not even need one. darn! lol
